Happy Thanksgiving and Hello Winter !!!

We have had quite a change in weather the past few days . Last week (Thanksgiving) , it was cool but not cold , and we had a nice time with Joe, Ashley and the grandkids when they drove up to visit us at our home in Lakeview. It was nice to have family visit us , we can't wait for more visits from family and friends! We love this area and are always eager to show off the sights of the nearby parks , rivers and hiking trails . After last weekend , the weather warmed up ... to T-shirt weather , and then BAM! .... here comes winter , with a 10" snowfall and more to come according to the forecast . Penny's work shut down Thursday and Friday , and my work closed Friday as well. Penny and I settled in and started the fireplace and watched it snow . It has been a long while since we have seen a 10" snow . A lot of the old-timers around here have predicted a colder , snowier winter this season , and it looks to be coming true .

I puttered around some in the garage today , while Penny got the Christmas tree out of the basement and put it up . About 3 PM the snow let up , and I decided to try and thaw the Jeep out and take it out for a "spin" in the fresh powder . Penny was having none of that , so I took her cell phone , the camera and bundled up and headed out . After thawing the Jeep for some time , I drove out of the driveway and headed out to some of the local areas , to see how she handled in the snow . It went pretty well , I only found one hill I spun on and couldn't climb up , and one time I pulled over off the shoulder to let a truck by , and started spinning tires trying to get back up on the road. A quick shift into low range 4WD and I rocked it a time or two and I was back up on the road. I had a good time ... I always like to get out in the countryside when it is snowing . I'm glad to have a Jeep now , as it gives you some confidence to be able to get out in this kind of weather and not be bound up at home when there is so much to see an do !

A shot looking downriver from Gaston Visitor Center near Bull Shoals dam....

SEE ..... I told you all I NEEDED a Jeep !!!!!!

A look at Bull Shoals Dam

I'll wait for my turn to go across the top of the dam ...

The road down to the power plant at the base of the dam ... sure is pretty in the snow !

I stopped and finally got the ice to melt off of my rooftop .... glad to be rid of that load .

A look up the bluff from below ... there is a nice trail and an overlook on that hilltop .

A view from the Lakeview side of the dam , looking though the cut in the mountain ...

The wind was howling across the water .... and looked like steam rising too ... Cool sight !
Joe & Ashley at Gaston's Visitor Center last week ... what a difference a week makes !

Joseph and Alexis pose for ANOTHER picture .......

We spent some time at Gaston's Resort checking out the Peacock Zoo and hiking on the nature trail behind it .
